  1. Cosmonauts Musa Manarov and Vladimir Titov were the first to spend a year in space during Soyuz TM-4 in 1987-1988.
  2. The longest human spaceflight by a woman was Samantha Cristoforetti of Italy, representing the European Space Agency on the ISS. She spent 199 days aboard the ISS in 2014-2015.
  3. Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person to reach space on April 12th, 1961.
  4. Less than one month after Gagarin's accomplishment, NASA Astronaut Alan Shepard made a suborbital flight on May 5th, 1961.
  5. The first woman in space, and also the first civilian, was Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova who flow on Vostok 6 from June 16th to June 19th, 1963.
