  1. The global spirits market was worth $216 billion USD in 2007, a 2.4% growth over 2006. The global spirits market is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 2.6% during 2007-12 to reach $245 billion in 2012. Evolving markets in Brazil, Russia, India and China, Latin America, the Middle East and Central and Eastern Europe and innovations in developed markets are driving the growth of the spirits industry. In 2006 China's spirits sales were $25.1 billion USD with 70 to 90% of that being baijiu, a white liquor. Diageo - the world's largest spirits producer by revenue - has a 43% stake in Quanxin, a leading baijiu brand based in Sichuan Province, considered the home of baijiu. Globally China is the leading spirits consumer by volume and the third largest by current value. In 2006 China's spirits sales were $25.1 billion (USD). (a.) .
  2. According to a 2009 report, increasing consumer interest in premium and super-premium spirits brands is driving innovation in the spirits industry.
