The Top 5 Oat Producing Countries

Special Report
- Even though a number of top producers have dropped production in recent years, others have picked up the difference. Global oat production reached its highest in the past three years, at 238,80,997 tonnes in 2013.
- The 6th place for oat production in 2013 was Spain with 964,700 tonnes, followed by the United States of America in 7th with 964,000 tonnes. Only a 700 tonne difference!
- In terms of continental ranking, Europe produced the most oats with 14,541,934 tonnes in 2013. This was followed by North America with 4,904,024 tonnes and South America with 1,718,361 tonnes of oats.
- Russia and Canada have been ranked one and two almost exclusively since records have been kept. Canada's peak production of oats was 4,696,300 m/t in 2007 but then it dropped sharply in 2008--though it maintained its 2nd place ranking throughout this decline.
- Perennial Top 5 producers: Germany, United States, and Spain have fallen behind Finland and Australia over the past decade.
