List Notes: Data is the top 5 countries with the most exposure to air pollution. Data is for the year 2017 which is the latest available data as of June 2020. Air pollution is ranked here according to PM2.5 air pollution, mean annual exposure. PM 2.5 refers to atmospheric particulate matter (PM) that have a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometers, that are capable of penetrating deep into the respiratory tract and causing significant health damage. Concentrations of PM are caused by both human activities and natural occurrences.
