  1. The Man Booker Prize is awarded yearly for the best fiction novel written in English by a citizen of the British Commonwealth of Nations or the Republic of Ireland.
  2. The prize began giving awards in 1969.
  3. In 2002 the Man Group became sponsor of the Booker Prize Foundation, and the prize is currently named the Man Booker Prize for Fiction.
  4. The winner of the prize receives £ 50,000 (about $75,000 USD) which was raised from £ 21,000 in 2002.
  5. There have only been two five-time nominees, Margaret Atwood who was first nominated in 1986 and won in 2000, and Beryl Bainbridge who was nominated twice in the 1970s and three times in the 1990s, but never won.
