- Mount McKinley as it was formally known or "Denali" as it is now officially known is called "The High One" in the Native Athabaskan language for North America's highest peak which until recently was named "Mount McKinley" after William McKinley a republican nominee for president. In 1980, the State of Alaska officially changed the name of the mountain to Denai with the federal government following suit on August 28, 2015.
- Mount Logan has the largest base circumference of any mountain on Earth. Temperatures are extremely cold on and near Mount Logan. On May 26, 1991 a record -77.5 °C (-106.6 °F) was observed, making it one of the coldest recorded temperatures outside of Antarctica.
- The Pico de Orizaba, or Citlaltépetl is a stratovolcano and is the highest mountain in Mexico and is ranked 7th in the world in topographic prominence. It is also the second most prominent volcanic peak in the world after Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro.
- Part of Mount St. Elias is located in the largest national park in the United States, the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve in Alaska. Mt. St. Elias, at 5,489 meters (18,008 feet), is the second highest peak in the United States after Denali.
- Mount Popocatépetl is an active volcano whose name comes from the Nahuatl words popÅca 'it smokes' and tepetl meaning 'mountain', thus Smoking Mountain and is also referred to as "Pop", "El Popo", or "Don Goyo" by locals. Popocatépetl is located about 70 kms from Mexico City. The first Spanish ascent of the volcano was made by an expedition led by Diego de Ordaz in 1519 and the early 16th-century monasteries on the slopes of the mountain are a World Heritage Site.
