Fleet size is as of July 2017 and does not include aircraft on order or aircraft belonging to the same company but under a different brand. The 2017 Index is the result of a complex formula containing multiple factors such as accidents and serious incidents, revenue passenger numbers, Safety Audits, etc.

The JACDEC annual safety ranking includes data for accidents in the last 30 years which, although very thorough, may not take into account recent improvements and changes in the airline's safety practices and operations as well as recent improvements in technology in the industry as a whole.
